One New York powerhouse stands alongside another: Yesterday, troopers out of SP Buffalo stopped by the Union Pacific’s legendary Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest steam locomotive still operating as it was parked at the Norfolk Southern rail yard in Cheektowaga during a stopover on a historic coast-to-coast tour celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The world-famous locomotive was built in Schenectady, NY, in 1941, weighs 1.1 million pounds, and is one of only eight Big Boys remaining today.
