The machete represents the unit’s history in World War II during which they were known as the “Jungleers” under the 163d Infantry and the two broken samurai swords represent the defeat of the Japan forces in Papua, New Guinea, and again in Luzon and the Southern Philippines for which the unit received campaign credit.
