Our team recently got back from Peru — where they got to see the full Brazil nut process from tree to table. 🌳🥜
here’s what they learned
Brazil nuts can’t actually be farmed. they grow wild in the Amazon rainforest, on trees that can live for 500+ years and only thrive in untouched forest. they’re hand-gathered by local communities (called castañeros) who walk the forest floor during harvest season, collecting the heavy pods that fall from the canopy.
every nut that ends up in our bag was cracked, sorted, and cared for by hand. no shortcuts. no industrial shortcuts. no way around it.
this is why Brazil nuts matter beyond the selenium — every nut purchased gives the rainforest more economic value standing than cut down. eating Brazil nuts is one of the most direct ways to protect the Amazon. 🌿
