Did you know that Nobel Prize winner Dr. Joe Murray was one of the 16 founding members of the Plastic Surgery Research Council? In 1955, he delivered one of his first talks at the first meeting of the PSRC at Johns Hopkins Hospital on kidney homotransplantation. On December 23, 1954, he successfully performed the first kidney transplant in the world on identical twins (the Herrick twins) at the Brigham. In 1990, Dr. Murray was awarded the Nobel Prize for this discovery. His initial inspiration? He just thought it seemed more FUN to do kidney transplants than just skin transplants.
