Here are a few drawings related to the painting "Night Shift” that are simultaneously inspired by the work of the immortal Japanese master Katsushika Hokusai and his woodblock prints of Samurai warriors and by the stories I imbibed in early childhood of the epic nighttime battle of the third patriarch of the ancient Hebrews as told in the Book of Genesis. This battle is the climax of the struggle that began in the womb of the mother and this painting is about facing ourselves within and facing the external world without... and prevailing.
