Most pickleball coaches don't have a slow season.
They have an unmanaged season.
- Sun Belt coach? July is when snowbirds leave and the heat clears the courts.
- Northern coach? November is when leagues shrink and outdoor courts close.
- Year-round metro coach? You have three predictable soft spots a year: late December, mid-June, mid-August.

The dip is going to happen. The only question is whether you planned for it 8 weeks in advance, or whether you'll spend it scrambling.

Here's the 4-phase annual rhythm the coaches who run sustainable businesses use:

🔵 Phase 1 - Pre-Dip (6–8 weeks before your slow season)

The most important phase. The most ignored.
Pre-sell packages. Communicate your schedule. Lock in committed players.
Going in with 30% of monthly revenue pre-sold = a slope. Going in at 5% = a cliff.

🟡 Phase 2 - Dip (your slow season)

Run lower-barrier formats: 3-in-Me sessions, clinics, round-robins.
Reactivate dormant players from your ghost roster. Use the bandwidth to build systems your peak will need.
Do NOT discount privates. Price-led acquisition during a slow season attracts churn.

🟠 Phase 3 - Pre-Peak (2–4 weeks before bounce-back)

The mistake is waiting for players to call you.
Announce your peak schedule. Reach out to every name on your ghost list. Open registration for programs, not just sessions.
Get on calendars before someone else does.

🟢 Phase 4 - Peak
Deliver. Retain. Communicate.

The temptation is to coast on demand. Don't. Every regular you keep this peak is one fewer to reactivate next pre-peak.

The math: at the national median pickleball coaching rate of $70/hr, an unmanaged 30% summer dip across three months costs $6,750 in revenue. Repeat for five years and that's $33,750 from a dip you could see coming a full quarter in advance.

Sun Belt coaches: you're 6–8 weeks from your dip right now. This week is the moment. Northern coaches: you're in peak. Run the same play in August. Year-round metro coaches: 3 weeks before each soft spot.
