Timely perspective for me. We just spent about 5 days alone in the house with our usually chill middle child. Sometimes we worry about him (he often seems "under the radar"), so this was a lovely chance to experience who he is becoming. He's the same guy he's always been, but this week I saw more power and resiliency, rather than avoidance or escapism. I needed to be reminded that 1) my overall parenting responses and tone are (sadly) often due to what I think is best for only one child, 2) we need to stay curious about each child and open to their endless possibilities, 3) the whole family system needs a good change-up once in a while! Things go so much more smoothly when I appreciate my children's individual personality traits, whether innate or influenced by the family environment.
