Working alongside skilled instructors, our youth interns learn professional bike repair by refurbishing used bicycles, which are distributed back to the community as affordable, sustainable transportation. Youth also help community members fix their own bicycles in our do-it-yourself Open Shop workspace. Our retail bike shop is open Wednesday through Sunday, 12-6pm, and our Open Shop hours are Saturday and Sunday, 12-6pm. Berkeley Boathouse fills the void left by the loss of woodworking classes in local high schools. In this program, youth work alongside our skilled instructors learning carpentry and traditional wooden boat building. When weather permits, interns take our fleet of boats paddling and sailing on the Berkeley Aquatic Park and San Francisco Bay. Youth interns and staff also provide boat rentals to the general public and help conduct field trips for groups of youth from partner organizations.
