can see such images inside of advertisements, music videos, movies, etc. The real world consequences can also be seen in the statistics around the violence that is routinely committed against women. Part of the way to address this problem is to insert images of women that challenge these problematic representations. The Woman Project (TWP) aims to do just that. Through the art of silk-screening and through social media TWP will work to illustrate women who are notable for their intellectual and/or political merits from around the globe every week for a year. I launched the project on March 1st, 2014, alongside Women’s History Month. The posters themselves are designed in such a way that their formal aesthetic qualities echo the project’s ideological ideas. That is, the most prominent element of the poster is a representation of the particular woman’s head. The body has not been included because of its over emphasis in mainstream media. This is followed by their name, which is then followed by a quotation from the subject. TWP tries to ensure that the women speak in their own voice, so whenever an original quotation can be found, even if it is not in English, it is listed below their name alongside an asterisk that directs the viewer to the bottom of the page for an English translation.
