In the field of physical training, performance training, fitness in general- many tend to rely on “opinions” and “experience” etc to justify or prove their training.

I believe a big part of this is that many lack the ability to read and understand research in this field. The sheer amount of peer reviewed research that’s available to all of us is pretty amazing. We can find just about anything even on the most random training methods but still most refuse to do their due diligence when it comes to researching.

Many cite “research” then post a blog article of an article from Men’s Health magazine - these are not research in any shape or form. It’s important to understand the methods of any research study especially when it comes to statistics.

I was very fortunate to have an amazing measurement and evaluation professor in graduate school (William Vincent Ed.D) who not only taught me about reliability, statistical significance, variance, sample sizes, correlation , standard deviations and much more. To top that, he made us figure all these things by hand before being allowed to use any software which was critical to our understanding.

This is my first peer reviewed publication (a survey) but the sample size was quite large so we had to make sure we were extra careful in how we analyzed all this data to avoid interpretive errors. To this day, this is the only paper analyzing the community college populations and comparing them to D1 football players. Yes, this was over 33 years ago!

Pretty cool having my 90-day, 3-phase workout challenge to kick off the New Year In the 2025 Training Guide✊🏽. These are workouts that I wrote and that were published years ago but always awesome to see that solid training never gets old like many fads we see these days 👍🏼🤓
