Mise en Place Kitchen

{ What you missed } Based on a traditional Brazilian sweet called “Romeo e Julieta” (Romeo and Juliet) which is made with guava paste and cheese or cream, Chef Theully made this amazing cake (actually two) for our last day on Sunday. A fluffy yogurt cake is the base with a guava cheesecake on top. One guest who has tried so many of our cakes said “this was the best cake I ever had in my life.”
Like the bittersweet love story that gives the name to this treat, it was a fitting way to end our bittersweet last day.

{ Farewell } It was a bittersweet day as we said goodbye to so many wonderful people who have loved what we offered over the past fourteen months. Some things like shooting stars and butterflies show us there amazing beauty for a brief moment in our lives. While we weren’t a lasting fixture at our spot in downtown Berkeley, hopefully we had a similar impact on our community, offering some joy, friendship, beauty and deliciousness for a brief moment, especially during this pandemic.
