Yep. Why are we (still) judging individuals based on a platform of problematic, heavily biased and harmful understanding of people.
I'm hearing so much talk about "grade level".
So many kids aren't at "grade level".
Grade level is a man-made concept.
For example, kids are learning letters and learning how to hold a pencil in Kindergarten. But, in today's schools, the expectation is to write an opinion about a story they just heard. We keep raising the expectations, and then complaining that kids aren't able to keep up. And then we complain about behavior when kids are telling us, and showing us, that they're having a hard time!
Make it make sense!
Kids do well IF THEY CAN!
If there's so much focus on how kids aren't working at 'grade level', maybe it's time to look at what 'grade level' is, instead of blaming kids and teachers.
Thoughts?
