When you finally do the thing you've been wanting to do for awhile 🥲🤩

When you run your own business, timelines are constantly shifting. Something you planned a year ago can keep being pushed off. And that's just the reality of being a business owner. But I'm a firm believer in the Divine Timing of everything and things happening when (and how) they're meant to. And today was a foundational moment for Wholistic Hounds.

I just completed the Foundations of Trauma Informed Care by Trauma Informed Oregon, an 8 hour CPD training course that covers the topic of trauma informed care and how it can be applied in a business or organization.

Since we focus on holistic healing, a lot of our clients and their pets have experienced some form of trauma or toxic stress. Because of that and the fact that I also have experienced trauma, offering trauma-informed care has always been a priority for Wholistic Hounds. The reality is that trauma isn't as rare as we might think, and more often than not, there is underlying trauma for both pets and their people.

Trauma Informed Oregon is an organization that offers free training to care providers. I am so thrilled for what I learned, the people I connected with and the hope this brings the community as a whole.

Trauma Informed Care is truly the future and all of us would be well-served to learn more about it.

During the class, we were prompted to explain in our own words what the purpose of trauma-informed care is. Here is what I came up with.

“The purpose of Trauma Informed Care is to offer a higher quality of care while prioritizing safety and preventing re-traumatization."

When we recognize that most businesses and organizations are not trauma informed, but rather trauma-inducing, we recognize that trauma-informed care needs to become the global standard in all care professions worldwide.

Thank you to TIO, the facilitators and all the folks who showed up for this training with the same goal in mind: to offer more compassionate care in a world that so desperately needs it.
