Meet Nelly. ❤️

Wednesday, we found Nelly stuck in a fence after what we believe had been several hours. She had been trapped in the direct Texas sun all day, unable to move. By the time we found her, she was completely exhausted and dangerously overheated.

We got her cut out as quickly as we could, cooled her down, got water and medications into her, and have been doing everything possible to help her recover.

Since Wednesday, she’s managed to stand three different times, but she still isn’t able to stay up for very long. Our veterinarian came out and believes she has nerve damage in her front legs from being trapped in the same position for so many hours. The good news is they believe she has a good chance of recovering—it just isn’t going to happen overnight.

For now, our days are filled with IV fluids, medications, massages, stretching, rolling her, and helping her stand whenever we can. It’s exhausting, but every little bit of progress gives us hope.

The thing about Nelly is… she hasn’t given up. Every time we help her, she tries. She wants to get back on her feet. And as long as she keeps fighting, we’ll keep fighting right alongside her. We won’t let her suffer, but right now she’s still telling us she wants the chance to heal.

If you have a moment, we’d really appreciate your prayers for this sweet girl.

And let this be a reminder to all livestock owners: put eyes on your animals every single day. You never know what situation they may find themselves in. There was no reason Nelly should have been stuck in that fence, but somehow she managed it. If we hadn’t checked when we did, the outcome could have been very different.
