Even as headlines fade, flood recovery in Whatcom County is far from over. This powerful story from Cascadia Daily News highlights the ongoing challenges many of our neighbors continue to face months after the water receded.
Hundreds of households are still navigating housing instability, repairs, financial strain, and the emotional toll of repeated flooding events. Recovery is not linear — and for many families, it’s still happening every single day.
We’re grateful to the organizations, volunteers, donors, and community members who continue showing up for one another. Sustained recovery takes sustained support. 💙

What if the simple act of gathering could change everything? 💬✨
Through Project Neighborly, we’re investing in the small, powerful moments that bring people together—shared meals, creative collaborations, neighborhood conversations, and new connections that might not have happened otherwise.
This year, we received 78 inspiring ideas from across Whatcom County. From those, 50 projects were funded—each one rooted in a simple but meaningful goal: helping neighbors connect, build trust, and create a stronger sense of belonging.
Because neighborliness doesn’t just happen—it takes intention. It shows up in small acts, open hearts, and the willingness to reach beyond what’s familiar.
Together, these projects are turning good ideas into real experiences—and building a more connected, resilient, and welcoming community for all.
Check out our 2026 Project Neighborly projects here and look for updates about these events soon: https://whatcomcf.org/nonprofit-partnerships/community-grantmaking/
