Doesn’t take too much to have simple darkroom. Here’s an example of our 3x3’ film changing room/ bathroom turned into a mini darkroom able to print 8x10”. Want to learn how to build one? Come help us dismantle our darkroom and we'll show you along the way. We're looking for volunteers between now and Sunday. Please comment or PM us.

As you may have heard the building (and entire block) that we are leasing has been sold and will be torn down to accommodate more housing. We knew this day would come but still has been a difficult one to digest nonetheless. The new property owners are moving quickly and need this place to be cleared out by August 31st so they can prepare for the demolition. If you have any interest in using the lab to process some film or make prints the time is now. I am shooting to keep the lab intact for the next 2 weeks then must start disassembling it. The good news? Cate Lawson-Reed, the proud new owner of Quicksilver Photo Lab generously offered us a section of the basement at their new location AND Chris Fuller -former community darkroom owner will be joining dark (room:) forces. I will be at PosNeg fairly heavily over the next couple of weeks so if you'd like to get in to use the space by August 18th please email me ASAP: jason [at] positive-negative.org and I will do my best to accommodate.
Thank you to all who have used the space over the past 7 years, created art here, shown art here, played music here, taken workshops here, participated in my goofy construction parties, all the generous equipment donations, and biggest thanks to my wife who was behind my vision and endless hours of building it. With the help I was able to transform a worn out leaky-roofed taxi cab repair shop into a studio, gallery, and photo lab that helped foster a creative community. It was an honor to be in this magical location, work with fellow film photographers (and digital:), make new friends, collaborate with incredibly creative neighbors & community members, and contribute to the start-up of The Alley District. This entire block will be missed and I wish the best for "the new Bellingham".
with dodging and burning, silver and grain, Jason Byal
Well my apologies for anyone who was planning to come and print tomorrow today.. Late notice but we will be closed. We'll be in later mid week for a couple evenings as well as the following Saturday's so please get in touch if you'd like to use the lab.
Thanks!
If it's been a while since you printed, processed, or mounted photos I will be helping folks get back up to speed this and next Saturday. Drop-ins welcome but feel free to reserve a time slot.
