Whatcom County Professional Fire Fighters
Could one tenth of a mile cost you 75% more on insurance? It happened to Semiahmoo resident and former insurance agent Delia Albertstein. Her premium jumped 75% in a year with no claims, because mapping software placed her home just past the five-mile mark from the nearest fire station, where insurance ratings spike. Fire District 21's rating has slipped from a 4 to a 6 as our community outgrew its funding. The proposed Levy Lid Lift would fund more first responders, new equipment, and a fourth station.

Proud of our members' work on yesterday's house fire on Walnut Street. Crews arrived to find a working fire that had already spread from a detached garage to the main residence and a neighboring garage. Their aggressive attack stopped it from going any further, and searches confirmed all occupants were accounted for. This is what our firefighters train for. Great job by everyone on scene.
"There have been no major upgrades in 46 years. It's full of mold, mildew, and leaks."
Birch Bay resident Jennifer Plombon discusses the condition of Fire Station 63 and why investing in modern, safe facilities matters for the firefighters and emergency personnel who serve our community every day.
Built in 1980, Station 63 has seen decades of service. Aging infrastructure, limited covered storage, and deteriorating conditions create challenges for the first responders who live and work there while protecting the residents of Birch Bay and surrounding communities.
