Snow Goose Alaska

The Snow Goose was the last boat designed by famed naval architect Ed Monk Sr. She has spent her life doing what she was designed to do: explore the waters of Alaska, British Columbia, and Washington. Since her christening in 1973, she has been a private yacht, a research vessel, an oil spill response vessel (Exxon-Valdez), a marine education school, and a small eco-tour ship. After my first trip

Hello, friends, far and wide!!
Many ask, “what is the Snow Goose up to during the winter months?”
Well… if you REALLY want to know…

The Snow Goose has been hauled out since December 5th and Captain Dan and his team have been working diligently to repair, maintain, and improve the Goose so that she is ready for more adventures this 2024 season.

The projects for exterior include:

- Repairing above the waterline, priming and painting
- Repairing the rub rails/prime and paint
- Sanding and painting of the hull
- Removing the Snow Goose lettering and replacing
- Stripping the railings, prep/paint
- Removing the propeller, rudders, and shaft. Replace as needed.
- Straightening the props due to strikes
- 4 new cutlass bearings
- Replacing the hull zincs
- Removing the black water lines, and replacing
- Removing the holding tank (replace soon)
- Removing intake stacks, clean up and paint behind. Reinstall.
- Replacing generator air intake
- Replacing thru hull plumbing
- Replacing stuffing box glands and hoses
- Repairing the starboard rudder assembly due to wear.
- Pass USCG inspection 🤞🤞

As you can see, the Winter months can be just as busy, if not busier than the season itself.

For those who have had the opportunity to be a passenger on the Snow Goose in Alaska, what was your favorite thing about your trip??
(Sights, food, adventures, ect)

For those that want to take a trip on the Snow Goose someday in the future, what are you most looking forward to?

The colorful world beneath the iceberg's surface... 🌈

Did you know the coloration of icebergs depends on the ice's density and the air bubbles' presence? Yep! Blue icebergs, for example, tend to have compacted ice that absorbs colors in the visible light spectrum, giving them their unique blue hue. 🤯

This phenomenon can create stunning and picturesque scenes (which our photographers LOVE), especially when sunlight filters through the ice, highlighting the different colors and textures.
