Lamar University recently selected 20 students to add to the Lamar University Ambassadors team. They will join 30 returning Ambassadors in representing the student body at official university functions during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department recently recognized several members who have devoted five or more years of volunteer service to the department.

Among the honorees were: Gary Flowers (55), Cindy Flowers (34), Eugene Griffin (31), Anthony Brammer (20), Lindsay Standley (12), Raymond Fowler and Christina Fowler (9), Crystal Griffin and Keith Jeanes (8), Christopher Fowler (7), Jason Anderson (6) and Doug Baker (5).

Allen Ryan Wilkenfeld, 41, pleaded guilty June 10 in 128th District Court and was sentenced to 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

The case began July 7, 2025, after the Office of the Attorney General's Child Exploitation Unit received multiple CyberTipline reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children involving suspected child abuse material.

Authorities said subpoenas and search warrants identified Wilkenfeld as the account owner. When investigators executed the warrants Oct. 25, 2025, Wilkenfeld allegedly admitted ownership of the account and confessed to viewing child sexual abuse material, authorities said.

U.S. Marshals arrested Tyler Shane Jackson on June 11 in connection with a May assault, according to the Port Arthur Police Department.

Police said officers initially responded to a call in which the victim had been assaulted hours earlier. The victim reportedly suffered a severe jaw injury requiring major reconstructive surgery.

Following the investigation, detectives identified Jackson as the suspect. Jackson is currently booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on an aggravated assault charge.
