Favaro's has been a favorite of fisherman for eight decades. Founded in 1931 by Sam, Frank, and Angelo Favaro, this corner grocery store evolved into a reliable rod and reel repair shop. Sam's son Bill now runs the shop and also has a complete line of equipment to help you reel 'em in!

Fishing lingo you need to know in honor of National Go Fishing Day 06/18/2016

Today is National Go Fishing Day!
Whether you’re a fluff chucking river man, a deep-sea deckhand, or a float fanatic in lakes and ponds, Go Fishing Day is the perfect excuse we’ve all been looking for to take a day off and get our lines wet.
With fishing as a recreational sport on the up in younger generations, there’s never been more locations to have a go at certain types of fishing. Try something new, or stick with what you’re already good at… either way, make sure you go fishing on June 18th. And before you head out to your favorite fishing hole, head to Favaro's Rod and Reel for all your fishing needs.

DYK? The earliest known English essay on recreational fishing was published in 1496. It was during the 16th and 17th centuries that recreational fishing gained popularity. In 1653, Izaak Walton published a book titled, The Compleat Angler or Contemplative Man’s Recreation. Walton’s book is the definitive work that champions the position of the angler who loves fishing just for the sake of it.

Because recreational fishing is one of the most popular outdoor activities in America, Danica Bailey Williams has organized “Wish to Fish Louisiana.” The Fisheries Program Manager at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries created the program with a goal to get kids off the streets, out of the house, away from the TV and video games and into the great outdoors. http://www.wishtofishla.com/

“Wish to Fish Louisiana” was organized with a goal to get kids off the streets, out of the house, away from the TV and video games and into the great outdoors.

Thanks to the leadership of Danica Williams, Wish to Fish gives kids that chance with emphasis on the importance of conservation and exploration. A day on the water fishing and learning about our natural habitats can afford children the opportunity to feel like they are a part of something. Wish to Fish Louisiana initiates an awareness program for children to become familiar with the outdoors that can lead them to be more compassionate about their surroundings.

Danica received the 2015 Governor's Conservation Award at the 52nd Louisiana Wildlife Federation Awards Banquet for her brainchild; Wish to Fish!

In 1931, Sam, Frank, and Angelo Favaro opened a General Store on Weller Avenue in North Baton Rouge. Being in the height of the great depression, fishermen lacked the extra money to replace broken equipment, so Favaro's began repairing fishing rods and reels.

For 85 years, Favaro's has been the name fishermen trust with their gear. If its fishing, its Favaro's.
