Patterson Man Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in St. Mary Parish

Patterson- Detectives with Louisiana State Police have continued to investigate the hit-and-run crash that occurred on May 11, 2026, in St. Mary Parish, and killed 26-year-old Brea Paul of Patterson.

Through investigative means, 34-year-old Travis Gilmore of Patterson was identified as the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run crash.

As a result of the investigation, on June 4, 2026, Gilmore was arrested and booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail. He was charged with Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit-and-Run.

This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police recognizes the vital role community members play in solving crimes and promoting public safety. In this case, an anonymous tip proved instrumental in identifying the suspect involved in the hit-and-run crash. Troopers extend their sincere appreciation to those who came forward, demonstrating how public cooperation is essential to holding offenders accountable and keeping our communities safe.

ORIGINAL RELEASE - May 11, 2026

Morgan City – On May 11, 2026, shortly before 06:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 182 near Field Road. The crash claimed the life of 26-year-old Brea Paul of Patterson.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Paul was walking on Louisiana Highway 182 shoulder when she was struck by an unknown sedan traveling in an unknown direction. Following the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.

Paul sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. A standard toxicology sample was collected from Paul and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers are still working to identify the vehicle involved. If anyone has information related to this incident, they are urged to contact Louisiana State Police Troop I at (337) 262-5880. Louisiana State Police Investigates Inmate In-Custody Death

Morgan City – On May 30, 2026, Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division (CID) were requested by the Morgan City Police Department (MCPD) to investigate an in-custody death.

The preliminary investigation revealed that 43-year-old Hilton John Hebert III experienced a medical emergency while in custody at the Morgan City Police Department. Officers and emergency medical personnel responded and initiated life-saving measures. Despite those efforts, Hebert was later pronounced deceased by the St. Mary Parish Coroner's Office.

The investigation remains active, and no further information is available at this time.

Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory: Assistance Needed Locating New Orleans Juvenile

Orleans Parish – The Louisiana State Police has issued a Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory on behalf of the New Orleans Police Department for 4-year-old Charm Hunter. She was last seen entering a white SUV in the 2300 block of A P Tureaud Avenue in New Orleans at approximately 12:00 p.m. LSP received the request to issue an advisory at 9:08 p.m.

Hunter is a black female with brown eyes and black hair. She is 4’0” tall and weighs approximately 36 pounds, and was last seen wearing a white shirt and purple pants.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Charm Hunter is asked to immediately contact the New Orleans Police Department at (504) 821-2222 or dial 911.

All questions should be directed to the New Orleans Police Department.
