I appreciated the chance to speak with the Fleur De Lis Republican Women in Lafayette and give an update as the legislative session comes to a close.

With the exception of HB148, the reform bills passed this session represent real progress. They target the legal abuse that drives up rates and make important strides toward a fairer system for everyone on the road.

My thanks to the LDI Fraud team and the Louisiana State Police for their tireless work. The Louisiana Department of Insurance and our law enforcement partners remain committed to aggressively pursuing those who commit these types of insurance crimes. Honest citizens deserve protection. Two important reform bills are on their way to the Governor’s desk. The Senate passed SB28 and SB137—two smart, consumer-focused bills that will help strengthen our homes and improve oversight of Louisiana’s insurance market.

On Sunday, the Legislature advanced several bills I’ve supported to help fix Louisiana’s broken insurance system.

Three are now headed to the Governor’s desk. Two more cleared the House, and one passed the Senate.

We’re making real headway, but much work remains.
