Last Tuesday, LSU Police Department welcomed special guests from the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired as they finished up their LSU field trip.
Students learned about safety and how our officers keep campus secure. They also got to experience an exciting K9 demonstration from Officer Gensler and K9 Gilbert and learned how police K9’s use their powerful sense of smell to detect dangerous items.
To top it off, each student received a Junior Officer badge, and got an up-close look at a police car and motorcycle. Everyone had a chance to turn on the lights and sirens and even speak over the loudspeaker! A fun day indeed, we enjoyed having them stop by!

Over the last two days, several of our LSU Police Officers showed up in a big way.
Some rolled up their sleeves to donate blood for LifeShare, which has seen a serious shortage of donations this year. Others got swabbed, hoping to be a match for Little Miss Cate, an 11-year-old girl in need of a bone marrow transplant. Some officers participated in both.
Two different needs. Both life-saving.
Now it’s your turn.
If you’re 18–35, take a few minutes to get swabbed, you could be the match that saves her life. And if you’re able, please consider donating blood. The need is real, and it’s ongoing. Baton Rouge, let’s show up.
