Musicology at LSU

d theory faculty provides a stimulating environment for the free exchange of a variety of viewpoints. In collaboration with an advisor, students construct a curriculum around a common core to suit their particular needs and interests. Survey courses provide a foundation for specialized seminars in both history and theory that cover a wide range of topics and guide students through the techniques of independent research and critical thinking. Informal colloquia and lectures by visiting scholars augment the regular course offerings. As a comprehensive school of music, LSU provides instruction in composition, music education, jazz studies, and conducting, as well as in most instruments and voice. Qualified musicians can find significant performance opportunities in the School's orchestras, bands, ensembles (chamber, jazz, and new music), and Collegium Musicum.
