In addition to providing critical wildlife habitat, the Atchafalaya River Basin functions as a flood relief outlet & important filter for the Mississippi River, slowing its flow & trapping nutrients & pollution to improve water quality before it empties into the Gulf.

LSU CENTER FOR RIVER STUDIES TOURS
LSU Center for River Studies is located on the Baton Rouge Water Campus near the banks of the Mississippi River. It houses one of the world's largest movable bed physical models - the Lower Mississippi River Physical Model.
