We get some pretty nice sunsets at the North Gates looking right down Chimes St. I think about all of the LSU students who have walked down Chimes St. and seen the setting sun for almost 100 years - from the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's, 2010's, and 2020's. (Muisc accompaniment on our Instagram Story was the beautiful "Slowdown Sundown" by Steve Winwood.)

Last week we posted a tribute on Instagram to Louie's Café, our wonderful North Gate neighbor. We decided to share it with you, our friends on Facebook, too. (The Instagram post music accompaniment of "The Best is Yet to Come" sung by Frank Sinatra will have to be added in your own mind since it seems businesses cannot add music to their FB traditional posts...)

We love being a part of the historic North Gates (Tiger Town) district. This neighborhood was created at the entrance to the campus when LSU moved here from downtown in the 1920's. The legendary Louie's Café has been here almost since the beginning - 85 years and counting! Established by Louie Sisk in 1941 as Louie's Dutch Mill, the restaurant had only 14 seats and featured a menu of simple breakfast options, freshly made cheeseburgers and fries, and sandwiches. The current owner, Jimmy Wetherford, took over in 1978. He expanded the menu to include their world-famous omelets and hash browns, along with many other delicious items. Louie's moved to a larger location on State St. in 1986. After almost thirty years on State St., in 2014 Louie's moved to its current space a few doors down on Lake St., still in the shadow of the Campanile. For over eight decades Louie's has been serving the university community and creating wonderful memories for all of us. Thank you, Jimmy and all of the employees of Louie's!
