June 5 is recognized as HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day, which honors long-term survivors of HIV and raises awareness about their needs, issues, and journeys. According to the CDC, in 2022, more than half of people with diagnosed HIV in the United States are aged 50 and older. We must continue to ensure that the aging population of survivors has access to supportive, inclusive healthcare systems, while also continue to combat the ongoing stigma associated with the virus.
