NASW-LA joins our community and the entire state in deeply mourning the sudden and tragic passing of Louisiana State Senator Larry Selders. Senator Selders came from a background in social work, and his support for the profession and the communities we serve was a beacon at the legislature. We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his wife, Kendra, his two sons, his loved ones, and the constituents of District 14 during this incredibly difficult time. A major legal victory has arrived for social workers and the public service workforce!
A federal court has struck down an unlawful Department of Education rule that threatened to revoke Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility for certain non-profit employees, citing overreach and First Amendment violations.
As a co-plaintiff in National Council of Nonprofits v. McMahon, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) hails this decision as a vital protection for the financial security of social workers.
