🗽☀️🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Lamar County Fire Rescue! 🇺🇸☀️🗽

As we celebrate our nation's freedom with family, friends, cookouts, and fireworks, let's make sure everyone gets home safely.

🔥 Beat the Heat
Drink plenty of water—even if you don't feel thirsty.
Take frequent breaks if you're working outdoors.
Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
Check on elderly neighbors and those without air conditioning.

♨️ Burn Prevention
Grills stay hot long after the food is gone—keep children and pets at least 3 feet away.
Use long-handled grilling tools and never add lighter fluid to an active fire.
Keep a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby while grilling.

🌊 Water Safety
Wear a life jacket when boating or around open water.
Never swim alone.
Keep constant eyes on children—even in shallow water.
Remember: drowning is often silent.

🎆 Firework Safety
The safest fireworks show is the one you watch from a distance.
If using legal consumer fireworks:
• Keep a water hose or bucket nearby.
• Never relight a "dud."
• Light one at a time and move away quickly.
• Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before throwing them away.

🚒 If an emergency happens, don't hesitate—call 911. We'd much rather help with a small problem than respond to a tragedy that could have been prevented.

From all of us at Lamar County Fire Rescue, have a safe, memorable, and Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

Every call. Every shift. Every life matters.

🔥🥵 HEAT ADVISORY FOR LAMAR COUNTY 🥵🔥

The forecast today is somewhere between "step outside and instantly regret your life choices" and "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are asking if you could turn the thermostat down a notch." 😅

Unlike those three, most of us don't have divine fire protection, so let's use a little common sense today. Even that fourth fella in the furnace is suggesting you stay indoors!!!!!

☀️ Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day unless it's absolutely necessary to be outside.

💧 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Drink water before you feel thirsty.
Skip excessive caffeine and alcohol if you're going to be in the heat.
If you're working outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.

🐶🐴 Don't forget your four-legged family members!

Make sure pets and livestock have plenty of fresh, cool water.
Provide shade whenever possible.

Avoid walking dogs on hot pavement—it can burn their paw pads.

Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle... not even for "just a minute."

🚒 Our firefighters and EMS crews will be out answering calls in this heat, but we'd rather not meet you because of a preventable heat emergency.

Know the warning signs:
⚠️ Heavy sweating
⚠️ Dizziness
⚠️ Weakness
⚠️ Nausea
⚠️ Confusion

If someone becomes confused, stops sweating, loses consciousness, or shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency.

Stay cool, Lamar County... and let's leave walking through the fiery furnace to the Bible stories.
