JAX scientists are identifying immune signatures associated with healthy aging versus decline to inform approaches to disease prevention in older adults.

Ucar’s team hopes that by identifying the baseline immune features (biomarkers) present before vaccination, they can predict whether someone will respond well to a vaccine — or whether they might respond better to one formulation
over another.

These insights support the emerging field of precision vaccinology, which aims to tailor vaccine strategies to individual immune profiles.

The long-term goal is to identify immune signatures associated with healthy aging versus immune decline — knowledge that could inform not only vaccination strategies but broader approaches to disease prevention in older adults.

Exciting news! The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) has received a $1.8 million grant from The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research to address a critical gap in Parkinson’s research – the limited availability of standardized, scalable human cell model systems for understanding Parkinson’s disease biology and supporting therapeutic research.

Survivorship is an ongoing journey.

Cora is one of millions of cancer survivors; one of thousands supported by JAX's Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative (MCGI).

And still, entirely one of a kind.

Through MCGI, her experience is helping shape more supportive, patient-informed resources, because patients are part of the care team too. Meet Cora: go.jax.org/cora

5 bite-sized stories to catch up on some of the latest in aging research from Search Magazine.

Last weekend, a team of JAX scientists, staff and trainees participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Farmington Valley, a community-driven movement to end cancer. The weather was cold but spirits were high as passionate supporters gathered to celebrate survivors, honor caregivers, remember loved ones lost and raise funds to ensure that everyone has the chance to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.

JAX scientist Francesca Menghi, Ph.D. offered remarks at the opening ceremony. Her work aims to better understand how alterations in the BRCA1 gene contribute to cancer development and how they influence responses to therapy in patients who already have cancer.

Francesca is one of many JAX scientists dedicated to cancer research. Through our National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center, JAX is committed to advancing research into the genetic, molecular, and aging-related mechanisms that drive cancer development and treatment resistance. Our goal is simple: to extend healthy lifespans and improve cancer care for people of all ages.
