During Womenโ€™s History Month, we recognize Verda F. Welcome, a pioneering Maryland leader who made history as the first African American woman elected to the Maryland State Senate.

Throughout her career, Welcome was a strong advocate for civil rights, education, and greater opportunity for communities across Maryland.

Her legacy continues to inspire public service and leadership throughout our state.
