During Women’s History Month, we recognize Verda F. Welcome, a pioneering Maryland leader who made history as the first African American woman elected to the Maryland State Senate.

Throughout her career, Welcome was a strong advocate for civil rights, education, and greater opportunity for communities across Maryland.

Her legacy continues to inspire public service and leadership throughout our state.

❄️ We know winter weather can be challenging, and we truly appreciate your patience. Starting Sunday, February 1 at 7 a.m., DPW crews will begin citywide alley snow removal to support safe service restoration.

🚜 Crews will work daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., following the regular trash schedule. Cleared alleys will be salted, and recycling collection resumes this week.

Crews have made significant progress clearing snow along Gwynns Falls Parkway, Liberty Heights Avenue, North Avenue and Druid Park Lake Drive.
