It has been a complete honor celebrating Miles’ 100th with and The Unlimited Miles Project. We have two nights left in NY until we head to the .

I’ve been asked time and time again, “what is it like being the trumpeter on a Miles Davis tribute?”

Well, this has been the latest of a series of these tributes and each time I feel a deep sense of gratitude, humility and love as it is beyond a privilege to be selected by folks that were actually in Miles’ band to fill that role. From what I’ve learned about Miles is that he did not appreciate imitation. He encouraged his band members to be themselves, creating something new. While it’s difficult to pay “tribute” to an artist without some reflection, I’m honored that Miles Alumni continue to trust me to honor the past without replicating the sound. In no way do I feel that I accomplish this fully as it’s very challenging to not “hear” Miles in the stage. So, when I hear Miles speak to me, I listen to the voice as a pathway to new possibilities.
