Pimlico Race Course
Pimlico Race Course is a racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, most famous for hosting the Preakness Stakes. Its name is derived from the 1660s when English settlers called the area where the facility currently stands in honor of Olde Ben Pimlico's Tavern in London. He was born in Kentucky, but raised and trained at Sagamore Farm making Native Dancer more than just a Pimlico legend, he's a Maryland champion. He won 21 of his 22 starts, including the 1953 Preakness and Belmont Stakes, with his only loss coming in the Kentucky Derby.
He appears in the pedigree of countless champions including Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer, leaving a mark that still echoes throughout the sport.
