Mitigating police interaction by paying fines and fees is always important, but especially now. It is old news that we can be criminalized in our own neighborhoods. WE KEEP US SAFE.

This is harm mitigation, not prevention. We can’t control what the police do but we can try to keep each other safe.

This 100th Black History Month has us reflecting on the
history and tradition of speaking out against injustice.

Both Marshall and Jackson represent something deeply rooted in Black history, the refusal to be silent in rooms that weren’t built for you. Their dissents aren’t just legal moves. They’re acts of moral courage that say: this isn’t right, and history will know I said so.

Marshall built his entire career on the Plessy dissent written in 1896. What Jackson writes today, a future generation will argue should have been the majority all along.

History has shown us that the law doesn’t always get it right the first time. Dissents provide future generations with a blueprint for progress. Marshall Dissented. Jackson Dissented. They used their legal tools on highest court in this land to refuse. The courage to say “no” when the entire country is saying “yes” is how change happens.

As the year draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the importance of new beginnings, something we all hope for during this season of renewal. At Baltimore Action Legal Team, our mission is to help neighbors in Baltimore overcome legal barriers that stand in the way of that fresh start to 2026.

In 2025, we performed 89 free record expungements and 20 free warrant recalls. These essential barrier removing services open doors to employment, housing, and hope. With your support we can surpass this number in 2026 to ensure more Baltimoreans have access to a fresh start in 2026.

A people-centered movement is what truly strengthens our efforts.

At BALT, we are dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to legal support and services. Your monthly contribution directly:

💜Provide hundreds of free record expungements, warrant recalls, and bail assistance.
💜Demand Baltimore Police Department (BPD) disclose records of internal misconduct.
💜Educate the next generation of movement lawyers with workshops and internships.
💜Help activists and advocates through operation of our Arrest Support Hotline

Change happens through consistent efforts. That’s why we’re inviting you to become a recurring donor — a steady supporter who helps us plan ahead and serve more Black families every month.

Starting at just $10/month, your ongoing support can be a lifeline for those trapped by the justice system. We invite you to become a recurring supporter. A monthly gift of as little as $10 can sustain our clinics, expand outreach, and help us serve more neighbors in need.

‼️KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, KNOW YOUR RISKS‼️

While many of us are traveling for the holidays, it is important to know your rights in the event that you are stopped in your car.

Note- While knowing your rights is important, it is by no means a magic wand that fixes the situation. Police often act outside of the law. Following these tips can help your case down the line.
