My wife was casually filming the hatchlings in our cardinal nest when this happened. One in a million shot. She admitted later that it gave her case of empty nest syndrome.

Rachel Carson Reserve is a North Carolina Dedicated Nature Preserve. Horses were introduced in the 1940s, went feral, and today are managed as the Maryland herd is managed at ASIS, with remotely applied birth control to maintain the health of the horses and the habitat. Give wild horses, and especially their foals, a wide berth and plenty of space.
Did not happen at Assateague, but, serves as a reminder Thx for helping us protect our wildlife!
We absolutely hate to see posts like this, however, we feel it is important to share. Spring is in the air, and stallions are on the move. The stress that the wild horses go through at this time of year is high. Please respect and give these horses the space they need.
Foals can die from stress caused by human interference. This is not an exaggeration.
The guidelines we ask everyone to follow exist to protect the horses, especially the most vulnerable ones. These rules are for everyone: tourists, locals, day-trippers, photographers, influencers.
No photo or post is worth a foal’s life.
These are wild animals. They deserve space, respect, and the freedom to live without fear or pressure from people.
Please do your part. Give extra space. Stay back. Stay respectful.
