The Hebrew verb zimzum was originally used to describe how, during the creation of the world, God retracted in space to allow room for this new creation to exist. Growing beyond its religious roots, zimzum has more recently been applied to the dynamic energy field between two partners, in which each person compromises to allow the other room and support to thrive.
