Starting the Day with Sun Salutations 🌞

This morning at The Food Project & UEmpower of Maryland Resource HUB, our yoga instructor, Turan, guided us through a series of Sun Salutations—a simple sequence of movements that can be done anywhere to help start the day with energy, focus, and intention.

Sun Salutations help improve flexibility, strength, circulation, and mindfulness while creating a moment to pause and reconnect with yourself before the day begins. Whether at home, at work, or in the community, this practice is a great reminder that wellness doesn’t require a gym—just a few minutes and a willingness to move.

At the HUB, we believe that health and wellness are important parts of building stronger communities. Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning and took time to invest in themselves.

✨ Breathe deeply.
✨ Move with intention.
✨ Start the day strong.

SUCCESSFUL MVA DAY AT THE FOOD PROJECT/UEMD RESOURCE HUB!

Today was another powerful reminder of why we do this work.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who showed up, studied hard, faced their nerves, and passed their Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration Learner’s Permit Test today. Every permit earned is more than a test passed—it’s a step toward employment, independence, transportation, and new opportunities.

One participant shared this message with us after passing today:

“Receiving my learner’s just put me a few steps closer towards continued success… I really appreciate the effort that this organization puts forth, helping the community reach milestones that otherwise would be barriers without your organization’s help.”

This individual spent nearly 14 years incarcerated and has been working hard to rebuild his life. Today, passing his learner’s permit was another milestone on that journey. Stories like this remind us that access matters. Sometimes all people need is an opportunity, a little support, and someone willing to help them navigate the process.

At The Food Project/UEMD Resource HUB, we believe there should be no wrong door. Whether someone comes for food, vital documents, employment support, healthcare, housing resources, or MVA testing, every service is a chance to help someone move forward.

📢 GOOD NEWS!
The MVA has added additional Read-Aloud Learner’s Permit Testing Days throughout the summer to help meet the growing need in our community. This means more opportunities for people to obtain their learner’s permit and continue moving toward employment and stability.

The MVA is adding dates:

June 12
June 26
July 17
July 31
August 7
August 21

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, MVA team, Franciscan Center partners, and everyone who helps make these days possible.

Congratulations to everyone who passed today—we are cheering you on and can’t wait to see what milestone comes next! 🚗🎓✨
