Exposing Misguidance

𝗕𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗶𝗱'𝗮𝗵!

3 Mighty Verses & an Athar from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (رضي الله عنه) to Reflect upon, that's related to this Narration of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله):

1)
اتَّبِعُوا مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ ۗ قَلِيلًا مَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
❝Follow! what has been sent down unto you from your Lord (the Quran and Prophet Muḥammad's Sunnah) and follow not any Auliya' (protectors and helpers, etc. who order you to associate partners in worship with Allah), besides Him (Allah). Little do you remember!❞ [Sūrah A’raaf: 3]

2)
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
❝O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger [ﷺ], and fear Allah. Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.❞ [Sūrah Hujurāt: 1]

3)
وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ وَلَا مُؤْمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَمْرًا أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُمُ الْخِيَرَةُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ ۗ وَمَنْ يَعْصِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَالًا مُبِينًا
❝It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.❞ [Sūrah Ahzāb: 36]

4) ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (رضي الله عنه) said: ❝Beware of the people of opinions, the enemies of the Sunnah — I present to them the ahādīth of Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ to memorise, and they respond with opinion and they were misguided and they misguide others.❞ [Translated by Abu Khadeejah Abdul-Wahid | At-Taqrīr Al-Aḥmad Bi-Sharḥ Usūl As-Sunnah Lil Imām Aḥmad - Shaykh Ubayd al-Jābiri (رحمه الله)].

2 Critical Verses to Take Heed of that's related to this Athar from Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله):

1)
وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَسَاءَتْ مَصِيرًا
❝And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the way of the believers¹. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell - what an evil destination.❞ [Sūrah An-Nisaa: 115]

Points of Benefit for this Āyah:
• ¹The believers here are referring to the Ṣaḥābah (raḍiAllāhu Anhum), they are the 1st generation of the salaf as-sālih.
• The threat of Allāh: if an individual takes a path different to that of the companions, it leads to the Hellfire, hence the way of the Ṣaḥābah leads to Paradise.

2)
{فَإِنْ آمَنُوا بِمِثْلِ مَا آمَنْتُمْ بِهِ فَقَدِ اهْتَدَوْا ۖ وَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا هُمْ فِي شِقَاقٍ ۖ فَسَيَكْفِيكَهُمُ اللَّهُ ۚ }
❝So if they believe in the like of that which you² believe, then they are rightly guided, but if they turn away, then they are only in opposition. So Allah will suffice you against them...❞ [Sūrah Baqarah: 137]

Points of Benefit for this Āyah:
• [آمَنْتُمْ]
² – the attached pronoun (Ḍamīr Muttaṣil) here is plural, the ‘you’ here is referring to the Ṣaḥābah, thus correct Guidance is having one’s faith established upon the creed (Aqīdah) & Methodology (Manhaj) of the Companions of the Messenger ﷺ only & purely.
• Allah states that you are an opposer if you turn away from this, therefore you are disuniting, splitting & dividing away from the Truth, Ahlus-Sunnah wa-l-Jamā’ah.

📝 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘: Madhhab can mean Way/Path/Belief/Creed/Doctrine - it is not restricted to meaning a School of Thought in Fiqh.

Abu Yusuf Khalifa, bring your proof if you are truthful...
