On this day in 1944, a breakthrough changed the future for kids born with CHD. ❤️🩹
At Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Alfred Blalock, Dr. Helen Taussig, and Surgical Technician Vivien Thomas performed the first surgery to treat Tetralogy of Fallot—a that limits oxygen in the blood and can cause a bluish skin tone.
Their pioneering work became known as the Blalock-Thomas-Taussig Shunt, and it opened the door for decades of lifesaving heart surgeries that children rely on today.
At Cardiac Crews, stories like this fuel our mission. We’re here to support CHD warriors, empower families, and help drive the next generation of breakthroughs. ❤️
