Music: The Secret Weapon of De-stress

It’s a sign of the times that many are experiencing higher-levels of stress from the chaotic world we live in. It’s also an understatement that pandemics, threats of war, political and social division have been much of the culprit causing a downshift in the pursuit of happiness.

With reports of overbooked psychologists unable to serve the uptick in demand for counseling, it presents a real wake up call for those who need help managing their anxieties.

However, there is one common thread running through everything that unifies the world which is our secret weapon. And that one thing is, MUSIC.

Music restores the soul is almost a proverb. But what’s so important to recognize here is the power of music is a proven, powerful de-stressor.

But not just any music. Music YOU love. Music that represents your happiest times in your life. Times that you can replay to distract yourself from the current pressures just by getting lost in your own record collection.

There’s even science behind it and while this is not medical advice, what this gives you is another tool to help withstand and minimize the anxieties that come with everyday life.

There are no side-effects or claims here only the fact that music can make you feel better and more worry-free.

Tune-out and Tune-in. Simply by experiencing the love of music with the help of a record collection, you can tune-out from the world and playback your life in the form of songs that make you feel happy. Music is therapeutic and this is your own personal music therapy sessions made simple.

In fact, music has always been known to be therapeutic. But now there are scientific studies that back up what people have been saying for centuries. Research shows that listening to music can lower:

- Blood pressure

- Heart rate

- Anxiety levels and more…

Psychologists and Behavioral Researchers are now saying:

- Music is a potent mood regulator

- Promotes well-being

- Helps manage psychological distress

- Restores harmony to benefit the mind, body and soul.
(Ref: Psychology Today, Adaptive Functions of Music Listening)

Since music is meditative, it’s absorbing and draws you in away from what you were thinking or worried about once the music that moves you begins to play.

Triggered memories could be things like;

- Who you were with somewhere…

- Cool things that happened…

- When you met someone new…

- A certain car or old house you loved…

It could be so many things that will distract you from the negative and pull you into great memories full of dopamine-triggered neurons. And before you know it, you’ll just feel good.

And this is why listening to music as a therapy is so important. Because it pushes back against stress and anxiety in such a good way, it literally lights up the good vibrations inside of you.

There are many songs we love and can relate to from certain times of our lives. By listening to songs we have happy connections with, it brings back mental pictures that help us re-live those wonderful moments.

There’s almost nothing else that can evoke the effect a great song has over us and the great feelings that come along with it.

Conclusion:

Many people are finding their music collection listening space has become their new happy place. It’s a way to destress and feel less depressed because music can be used as a form of therapy that’s never far away.

So, it’s ok to get lost in your favorite music collection and let the good times and memories playback over and over again.

Use it to offset life’s blues any time you feel the need because music is the great equalizer that cuts stress down so much less.

Do You Know How to Properly Grade A Record?

Grading vinyl records is for collectors at any level. Whenever adding a vintage vinyl record to your collection, following this vital rating checklist will enable you to properly grade vinyl like a pro collector.

In fact, here @ Timecapsulez, this is the same exact grading process all our records go through.

Soon you’ll be making better record-collecting decisions beneficial to your growing vinyl portfolio.

This is very important and now you can use the exact same rating system we use to properly assess and grade your own music catalog.

Here are the prime ratings to grade a record by:

Near Mint (MN)

Excellent (VG ++)
Very Good Plus (VG +)

Very Good (VG)

Fair

LPs should be judged by two grades:

- One for the record

- One for the cover

Grading is done visually. Some defects are easy to see, such as scratches and warps.

Other defects are subtle, such as groove wear from using a cheap or poorly aligned tone arm, etc.

Hot Insider Tip: It has been our experience that older LPs (1950s to about 1971) tend to play better than they look. Newer LPs (at least until 1989) tend to play worse than they appear.

You can find out more details on each grading rating with full descriptions over here:

Vinyl records are enjoying a resurgence in popularity. They’re often seen as being more collectible and have greater sound quality than their CD counterparts. The main point to understand about collecting vinyl records are they’re more valuable than CDs. People love the old record covers and the whole audio experience vinyl records give them.

Let us break it down for you even more…

Vinyl records have a richer audio quality because they don’t use digital compression like CDs. As a result, vinyl records pack more audio information deep into the grooves which makes them sound better than CDs. That’s the real secret sauce of Vinyl VS Digital in a nutshell.

Audio enthusiasts view vinyl records as a highly-collectible especially when rare finds are added to their collections. There’s definitely a mindset for making provisions to catalog and store vinyl long-tern. Vintage records are like a fine art to true vinyl record lovers.
Types of vinyl collectors

There are different types of vinyl collectors. Some collectors love records for their unique sound quality while others are known to be driven by the album cover art.

Some say they love the feeling of holding an original music relic in their hands. Then there’s the ones who love the whole the turntable experience.

There are even collectors who only focus on one genre of music while others collect anything and everything. There are also collectors who seek records from certain time periods or decades.
Then of course there’s always the collector who loves it all which all-together make up the driving- force in the current vinyl resurgence.

Q. So, what makes collecting vintage albums so special?

A. There’s just something unmistakable about the sound of a stylus needle dropping down onto a record which evokes memories through audio stimulation that vinyl and a turntable do so well.
What to look for when buying vinyl records

Many people are pleasantly surprised to find that vinyl records are still popular. While there are many reasons people enjoy collecting and listening to vinyl records, there are a few things to look out for when buying them.

The first thing to consider is the condition of the vinyl record itself. It should be free of scratches, and the label should be in good condition.

Another consideration is the quality of the pressing. The best way to determine this is by looking at the edges of the record. They should be straight and not warped.

Additionally, it’s important to make sure that the turntable you’re using can handle the weight of a vinyl records since they can be stacked.

Preserving your vinyl collection

Vinyl records are popular items to collect, and for good reason. However, preserving your vinyl collection is very important. In the following, we’ll discuss storage and how to care for your records helping to keep them sounding great.

To take care of your collection, here are some tips on how to preserve your vinyl.

1) Make sure that your records are stored in a cool, dry place. Exposure to heat and humidity can damage your records.

2) Keep them away from direct sunlight. The ultraviolet light can damage the vinyl and cause it to deteriorate.

3) Don’t store your records on top of each other horizontally. This can cause them to warp over time. Instead, keep them standing lined up next to each other like a bookshelf.
