About “On My Way” (EP)

The title track “On My Way” combines Bossa Nova drum patterns with lyrics inspired by artists like Dodie. The song is about not realizing that you may be right where you need to be when all along you thought you should be somewhere else. The song also features bass flourishes from and layered harmonies.
“Simple” is a tender love song that explores the reality of learning to love someone in ways you never thought possible. As Eric and Keith’s favorite song on the EP, this stripped back ballad features layered harmonies by both Sophie and Eric: a testament to the love that created this song.
“Simmer Down” is a rock song with grunge influence. Lyrics feature an inner dialogue about a person struggling with criticism they have heard from others combined and influenced by their own self-perception. This much more intense song features layered harmonies and countermelodies accompanied by instrumental distortion.
“Black Horse And The Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall is a finale of both this EP and live shows performed by Avenue 2. This cover was produced by Jelil Missouri. Sophie and Eric started playing this song as a duo when they first started the band almost 5 years ago. The song starts with a country hoedown approach to the drum pattern that gives the song a Nashville feel. At the bridge, the song switches to a slow, hip hop groove that creates a laid back feel. This section features soulful vocal section by Sophie, followed by a funky bass solo which fades the full work out to a close.
All four tracks were mixed and mastered by Keith Fleming and Devron Dennis.
