What's Happening at Hope-July 10

Ready To Become A Member? The Gospel of Matthew sermon series continues this week, as we move through the book verse by verse. This Sunday, we will be looking at Matthew 12:38-42.

On the heels of the Pharisees giving Satan credit for what the Holy Spirit was doing through Jesus, Jesus responds with the simple and clear truth that the works he was performing were good.

In verses 33-37 of Matthew chapter 12, we see Jesus explaining good fruit doesn’t come from a bad tree like that. As Pastor Mark puts it: “you can’t just staple good fruit onto a tree.”

So this begs the question, “how do we become a good tree?” We have the answer from one of the running themes of the Gospel of Matthew: repent, believe and be baptized. It’s a clear call to align with God and become productive in his kingdom. And as Jesus teaches, there is evidence that real change has happened in you as a repentant person when the fruit in your life is good.

Pastor Mark challenges us to treasure the Word of God in our hearts which will lead to words of grace, edification, and love. What you say reveals what's inside and you can only pull from the treasure inside of you.
