Test prints, or monoprints, are one-of-a-kind artifacts that develop while screen printing. Whether they’re used to clear ink from a screen, adjust print registration, or test ink opacity and flow, these test prints evolve from necessity. Each one is an individual, made of images, screens, and orientations from multiple poster designs that come through the shop. What starts out as a blank sheet of paper, or overruns from previous jobs, ends up becoming its own work of art through chance and luck. Perfectly imperfect. Determining when a test print is “done” is as diverse and complex of a decision as the prints themselves, which is what makes them unique and collectible. ⁠
