Wild About Music

Joe Ely has passed. Another huge and personal loss this week in Texas Music. When Fred and I opened Wild About Music Art Gallery (30 years ago gulp) we learned of Joe’s love for art and he graciously agreed to let us host an opening for his artwork. In addition to sketching and he was a multimedia pioneer in digital art, actually painting using the newest technology on his Apple II. His Jail Series was the highlight of our show. Joe was a writer and storyteller and his art was an extension of that. His yarns about traveling from Lubbock with the circus, a brief overnight in jail, meeting and touring with The Clash, a west Texas ho**er named Chippy… the stories were inspirations for books, art, plays and of course songs.

He was a true legend in Texas music but as engaging and humble as they come. As Joe and Sharon often told us…”We just like to make stuff.” ❤️ Condolences and all our love to Sharon & Marie.

It’s a very sad day when your favorite singer in the universe leaves us. RIP Raul Malo of The Mavericks. 💔
