What can we learn about supporting transition-age youth before they experience homelessness?
Valerie Hallam, THN board member and Director of Systems Advancement at the Texas Alliance of Child and Family Services, shares key findings from her study involving more than 200 young adults and 120 staff across Texas focused on barriers facing youth aging out of foster care.
The analysis highlights critical gaps in housing, documentation, life skills support, and long-term stability. It also points toward solutions such as expanded housing support, earlier intervention, and youth-led systems change.

Stronger solutions start with shared learning.
At .tx’s 2026 Annual Training Conference, THN’s Hope Rodgers and Crystal Narviz of co-facilitated a Housing and Homelessness Roundtable, bringing together agencies from across Texas to share strategies, identify gaps and strengthen local response systems.
From prevention to collaboration, the conversation focused on what it takes to build systems that keep people housed.
