Rip Van Winkle has the sweetest, slightly ridiculous way of asking for affection. She’ll flop onto the floor and slowly drag herself toward you until she’s close enough for a head scratch. Such a determined little marshmallow! 🤍
Rip just wants to be near you. She’ll follow along, curl up beside you, and sleep by your feet at bedtime. She just enjoys being part of your day!
Think Rip might be your cat? See her full profile on our website https://tinyurl.com/APARip and email [email protected] to connect with her foster.

Not even 24 hours after wrapping our Raise a Day for APA! campaign an emergency notice dropped from the Texas Animal Health Commission. The New World Screwworm, a devastating parasite, had triggered a strict state quarantine. Unlike ordinary pests, these larvae burrow into the open wounds of these animals and feed on the healthy tissue which is especially dangerous for the medically vulnerable, like newborns and senior pets.
Right now, rural shelters in the infested zones are facing an impossible clock. State regulations mean pets can’t leave without an official inspection certificate, creating a mandatory 5-day wait window.
Our Transport Program is often the only lifeline for the animals in these shelters, so now we must rewrite our transport strategy. We can no longer make nimble, regular trips to relieve the pressure.
We are rushing to support these rural shelter pets, bringing larger groups into our care before they are even tagged for out-of-state transport. They have to stay with us longer, eat more meals, and occupy more space.
We estimate this may cost an unexpected $300,000 to manage this slow-moving disaster over the coming months. From an immediate $9,000 emergency purchase of heavy-duty oral parasite medications to renting extra transport vans and funding temporary drivers, the cost of this new effort adds up fast and affects every part of our operation.
We refuse to let shelter pets become the forgotten casualties of a biological crisis, and we know you do too. If you have ever stood by us in a disaster, we need you now. Please give an emergency gift today to help keep pets safe. https://bit.ly/3QlwtUQ 🧡

Marsala’s interests include, but are not limited to, less work, time outdoors, enjoying the small things, self-care and plenty of snacks.
While she’s been living in foster for the last few months, she has started to struggle in an apartment setting. We know she thrives with a yard and loving humans and we’d love to see Marsala adopted before she comes back to the shelter at the end of June. Can you help?
Breaking: local dog Tundra declared a menace by the very people who remain completely obsessed with him.
He’s a handful. He’s also still available for adoption!
