Meet our find and Head Judge, former Austin Person of Gear Thaddy Kewal!
"Thaddy isn’t a name, it’s a title that combines they/them+ Daddy to highlight their identity and role within their leather family as the co-founder and co head of the Casa de Maravillas. They flag Hunter green, light blue, navy blue, fuchsia, and mustard yellow on the left.
Their leather and gear philosophy is to wear what makes you feel empowered and to help others do the same. Their community work has always involved direct contact with the community and the using their unique set of skills to bring people and resources together. Thaddy Kewal believes that communities heal best when they heal from within, and this is what drives them to use their training as a therapist to help people in the leather and trans communities with stigma free mental health services.
When Kewal isn’t working, you can find them leading yoga classes for the LGBTQIA+ community (check out Big Gay Church at black swan yoga!), working out, playing Dungeons and Dragons, or enjoying time with their partner boy Stryker, and their dog Waffles."
Make sure to come out for the Meet & Green on Friday/Halloween to meet Thaddy and his sponsors, the folks at 2v1 Darkworks for Thaddy’s Beat and Greet!

We're halfway through October and just a few weeks away from Austin Person of Gear Contest! Lets meet our third Judge - Boy Angela!
Boy Angel (he/him, polyamorous and a S/switch) joined the Houston Pans*xual scene in 1996-97 attending events for such groups as Hpep, EROS, and the Bound Collective ( a very unique group from the Galveston area based on the members love of Cosplaying Star Trek), and by 2001 found his way into the Gay Leather community as well as his own special niche with the Lonestar boys of Leather. It was here that he first identified himself as having the heart of a boy and came to be accepted for himself regardless of his s*x in a time period where very few females self-identified as a boi/boy. From here his world broadened outside of the Houston area into Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin. In 2001 he attended his first Boy Training Camp specifically for helping boys to embrace their unique roles and better understand their strengths. In 2006 he officially joined Bound by Desire, Austin's oldest Leather club. Currently he enjoys doing yoga, quilting, cohabitating with his husband J and their cats, hanging out with the Austin Gear's group, and spending time with Leather family “Casa de Maravillas” (whom he is currently prospecting to join).
Almost from the very beginning, he began volunteering behind the scenes at nearly every event he attended. And was often one of the last people to leave after a party as he would usually stay for clean-up. (Hpep Ball, Gwnn Bash, Texas Leather Pride, Tribal Fire, Thunder in the Mountains, IMsL, SPLF, and Team Dungeon, as well as TCC. Wherever the need presented itself he would offer assistance; setting up or tearing down play equipment, stage equipment, tables and chairs, being a personal Valet for special speakers while they were in town and presenting their classes, driving guest Speakers and Presenters from the airport to the host hotel, being a last minute demo bottom for panicked Presenters, schlepping coffee in the mornings for Key Note Speakers, boot blacking, helping with registration, tearing down old buildings, putting up insulation in new buildings...you name it he has probably done it! His preference is to be behind the scenes in a service role, however he can be brave and be in the spotlight periodically.
