I spent part of my weekend with Central Texas Table of Grace as emcee for their Denim and Diamonds event, and it was one of those full-circle moments that sticks with you.

Stacy Johnson (pictured) has an incredible story. From growing up in foster care to now serving as CEO of a shelter that supports kids walking similar paths, she’s turned her own experience into purpose-driven leadership.

I first learned about Stacy back in 2021 when she was recognized through KXAN’s Remarkable Women contest. Before the event, I went back through old emails and found one I had sent her on April 7, 2021 at 6:49 a.m. I wrote, "It sounds like you’ve been through an incredible journey, and emerged strong, smart, motivated, and with a huge heart. If there is ever anything I can do to support your organization or talk with some of the kids, please reach out."

Last weekend felt like a long-awaited answer to that note. I asked Stacy if she remembered that email. She did.

Grateful for people like her who are doing the hard, meaningful work, and grateful to play even a small role in supporting it.

Loved doing this story with Stacy, who I remembered from our coverage of 2021 when she was KXAN's Remarkable Woman of the Year.

Keep going! You're doing life-changing work.

Stacy Johnson entered foster care when she was two-years-old, and by the time she was 16, she’d been in 10 different placements. Now she's working to prevent local children from having the same inconsistency she had growing up. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/round-rock/former-foster-child-plans-15-million-round-rock-campus-to-help-kids-from-similar-backgrounds/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_KXAN_News

Five people are dead after a small plane crash in Wimberly. The county judge says a Cessna 421C went down around 11:05 Thursday night. Preliminary information indicates the aircraft was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact. The judge says there is no indication of a mid-air collision. A second aircraft traveling in the vicinity landed safely in New Braunfels. For context, the plane photo is from Wikipedia showing the same model of plane involved. The scene photos are from reporter Ava Brendgord.
