Hey Ria Johnston
Next time you visit a major grocery store, examine the packaging with the following in mind:
- Which brand has been around the longest?
- Whose packaging stands out visually from afar?
- Which products look the cheapest?
It becomes pretty obvious which brands stand out…
- One brand will stand out for having the best price (and will likely also look the most basic)
- Another brand will stand out for having the highest price (and will likely have the highest quality packaging)
- Another brand will stand out for being the most colorful and loud (often catering to youth or creatives)
- Another brand will stand out for being the one you’ve seen the most over the years (they’re serving nostalgia and loyalty to mature crowd)
Now look at the rest… they kind of just… blend into the background.
Not the best price, or design, or placement, just AN OPTION you’ll forget.
Now ask yourself…
Does YOUR brand stand out (online) to a clear customer, or is it just another forgettable option?
Now imagine this...
If you walked into that grocery store and happened to meet the friendly founder of one of those ‘not so memorable’ brands on the shelf… then you’d remember it. You’d remember that interaction and feel maybe a bit more partial to giving their brand a try after meeting the founder in person.
But without such a personal introduction, their brand will just slip into the ether.
Are you that founder?
Are you relying on your word of mouth, your networking, your strong sales abilities, and your in-person charisma?
Do YOU have to pull all the weight of a brand that doesn’t speak for itself when lined up with everyone else on that shelf?
Let’s do the work to ensure your brand stands out to the people who crave your offers the most.

Yesterday over lunch, I asked my husband Kyle… “Why do you think my engagement is so low?”
For context, Kyle posted 10 times a day for 20 days straight and grew his account by 25% this month. 🤯
He looked at me and said, “I’d have to look at your content more closely to give you feedback.”
He pulled out his phone, and we scrolled through my 9 most recent posts…
“You need to share more about YOU and who you are,” he said.
Blind spots in marketing are funny like that.
I often find that some of the marketers that I respect the most are making great money… their own content and website are, well… not as good as the work they do for their clients, to put it kindly.
I personally have the theory that one of the biggest things that has held back my business in the past 2 years is primarily due to the fact that I have almost always prioritized client work over marketing myself and practicing what I preach in my own content, website, and overall branding.
💡 As soon as Kyle said that, I thought, “Duh!”
A lightbulb went off.
Since rebranding from ‘Studio Kind’ to ‘Hey Ria Johnston,’ I hadn’t made a new about-me post.
I had this on my list, but I immediately knew (or hoped, at least) that from an engagement standpoint, today’s post would get me back on track.
I would love to know… do you have any questions for me about how I built my business?
If so, let me know below, and hey, I might just make an entire post JUST FOR YOU and your questions to help ya out! 💬👇
Because ultimately, my goal with this account is not to sell but to SERVE YOU. 🫂
Why?
Because building a business is lonely, and if you are wondering what your blind spots are, I’d love to be your second pair of eyes.
With love,
Ria Johnston 💛

Here are 3️⃣ easy ways you can reach more of your ideal audience on social media using SEO 👇
SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization”. It’s the practice of OPTIMIZING the words on your online content (Website and social media) to ensure that when the people you want to work with SEARCH for someone who offers what you offer THIS ENSURES PEOPLE FIND YOU.
OK OK, HERE IS THE LIST!
1️⃣ OPTIMIZE YOUR INSTAGRAM BIO
— Break your bio down into 4 or less short bullet points
— Mention the RESULTS you deliver
— Mention the service(s) you offer
— Invite your client to reach out
(see my bio for an example)
2️⃣ GET FOUND BY MORE PEOPLE WITH A BETTER INSTAGRAM NAME
— Not to be confused with your USERNAME (your username has the ‘@’ in front of it)
— If you are the only person a client would talk to when working with you, the first word in your IG name needs to be your first name (IE: Ria)
— Then write your title/niche/expertise/or service. Exp: John — Business Coach, Aref — Website Designer, Lisa — Public Speaking Coach
— This helps people find you when they look for someone who offers your service
3️⃣ Use KEYWORDS in your captions (easy I promise) — In other words, if you’re a nutritionist and your niche is teaching about the carnivore diet and fasting to remove parasites, then you need to incorporate the words “nutrition, carnivore, parasite removal, and diet” into all of your captions.
— Create a bank of words that are related to your service/niche and include them in your captions to help the algorithm understand your expertise and push your content to more people who need you.
🚀 Need help attracting and CONVERTING more of the people you dream of working with?
