To the GDI Austin community,

Over the last few months, several incidents have come to light which are directly contradictory to the mission and values that the GDI Austin leaders signed onto. Along with chapter leaders all over the US, we are appalled to see racism, anti-Blackness, tokenization, and exclusionary practices not only allowed to metastasize across our organization, but also perpetrated by our national leadership. Several of us penned an open letter to the GDI Board which includes some background and also details our demands.

The current GDI Austin leadership is in discussions concerning the future of this chapter. Continuing with business as usual makes us complicit in the same oppressive systems we proclaim to stand against. In the interim, all current GDI Austin events are cancelled and no future events will be organized.

So long as GDIHQ fails to implement meaningful changes that re-center the community and empower the most marginalized, GDI Austin-- along with Indianapolis, Seattle, Rochester, and others-- is on hiatus.
